Self Esteem & Self Care

Your self esteem is one of the most important things that help motivate you to accomplish things in life. Self esteem is a subjective opinion of your own value and worth. Having a low self esteem is directly correlated to depression. When you’re depressed, your motivation to do things is severely diminished. But on the opposite end, when your self esteem is higher, not only are you more motivated to accomplish things, but you just feel better. In order to raise your self esteem, you should participate in acts of kindness towards yourself. Looking in the mirror and giving yourself positive affirmations, which is just saying nice things about yourself, is one way to raise your self esteem. When you’re facing yourself in your reflection, looking yourself in the eye, and giving yourself these compliments, even if you don’t believe in them at first, when you practice saying these things, you will find yourself starting to believe in it. Another way to raise your self esteem is to be around people who love and support you. When you surround yourself around positive people that love, support, compliment, and hype you up, you will naturally start to feel better about yourself. Not only is self esteem important, but self care is important. Self care is the act of you doing something that you enjoy for yourself. It’s that time for you to silence the world and be in your own world to recharge. Self care can look like many things: journaling, writing poetry, going for a walk, playing video games, creating art, etc. Self care is important because if you don’t self care you will find yourself burnt out, not wanting to do the things that you are required to do in life. But, if you take the time to care for yourself, you will find that you have a lot more energy to take on the world. So remember, practice self care and practice acts of self love to raise your self esteem. A lack of either can result in depression, lack of motivation, and a general sense of dislike towards oneself.
